Term 2, 2018

Week 1
Writing Workshop Tuesday 5th June 

9:30am to 3:00pm - meet at the office

  • Bring your draft story on a USB + a printed copy

  • Bring a notebook/pad, pens, pencils, morning tea, lunch, water bottle, hat

Illustration Workshop Wednesday 6th June 

9:30am to 3:00pm - meet at the office

Please bring:

  • Paint shirt

  • Lead pencils, a good sharpener, plastic eraser

  • Coloured pencils (Derwents or similar if you have), textas

  • A black Artline or Fineliner pen

  • Watercolour block paints 

  • soft and bristle brushes

  • A4 art paper

Don't forget to:

  • draw a line for your page size and label with page number

  • match the picture to the text   (+ added details)

  • use the same style all the way through

  • use only 1-2 media for each picture and use the same all the way through

Possible combinations:

  1. Coloured pencil

  2. Watercolour wash with coloured pencil over the top

  3. Charcoal drawing with opaque watercolour paint

  4. Felt tip pen drawing

  • Finally, use an outline (pencil or felt tip pen) where necessary to help the drawings stand out.

  • Finish every drawing to the highest quality, ready for printing.

THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK 
 
  • Email the latest version of your story at least an hour before your webinar.

  • Make sure last week's picture has been scanned and emailed.

  • Judith will send you an email with a link to your Box storage folder in the cloud.

  • After the webinar download the new version of your story and save onto your thumb-drive. Keep working on your story, making the changes we talked about.

THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK 
  • Email the latest version of your story at least an hour before your webinar.

  • Make sure last week's picture has been scanned and emailed and you can see it in your Box folder.

  • Download and print 2 copies of the WEBCATS PICTURE PLANNER.  Write in descriptions of your first few pictures and show it to your teacher. Pin up one copy in your classroom and the other on your fridge at home. 

  • Plan with your teacher to allow you enough class time each week to work on your pictures and story.

  • Make sure to always keep your pictures ABSOLUTELY FLAT and store them in a SAFE PLACE. Ask your teacher to mind them for you. If you take them home to work on, make sure you take them back to school each day. Do not let them get wet or wrinkled or the wrinkles will show in your book.

Webinar - Wednesday 27th June  
 
THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK 
  • EMAIL the latest version of your story at least an hour before your webinar; preferably a day before.

  • SCAN and EMAIL last week's picture so it can be added to your Box folder.

  • DECIDE Which 2 pictures you will work on in the holidays? Write them into your PICTURE PLANNER.

  • PLAN (with your teacher) for enough class time to work on your PICTURES and STORY.

  • READ this helpful advice about the word 'said'.  Can it help your story?      Download SAID.PDF

  • CHECK that your first 3 pictures are in your Box folder. Email them if they are not.

  • DOWNLOAD a new copy of the PICTURE PLANNER and write in your pictures up to Friday July 27.

  • SCAN and EMAIL your new picture planner

  • PLAN (with your teacher) for enough class time this week to work on your PICTURES and STORY.

Week 5
Week 6 (Term 3 Week 1)
Webinar - Wednesday 25th July  
 
THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK 
  • EMAIL the final draft of your story at least an hour before your webinar.

  • DOWNLOAD a copy of the NEW PICTURE PLANNER and write in all your pictures.

  • SCAN and EMAIL your new picture planner

  • PLAN (with your teacher) for enough class time this week to work on your STORY and PICTURES.

THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK 
  • Plan interesting and different pictures for each page of your story. Use your STORYBOARD.

  • TAKE all your pictures, art paper and special pencils along to the workshop. Remember to keep them FLAT and DRY.

  • PLAN (with your teacher) for enough class time this week to work on your PICTURES.

Week 7
Week 8 (Term 3, Week 3)
Webinars Wednesday 8th August 
THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK ​​​
  1. COMPLETE AND SEND IN YOUR PICTURE PLANNER  !!!

  2. Put the CORRECT PAGE NUMBERS on ALL your pictures! (Should match your Picture Planner)

  3. SCAN & SEND your pictures as JPEGs - not PDFs.

  4. PLAN (with your teacher) for enough class time this week to work on your PICTURES.

  5. After she has checked them, Lucy will move your finished pictures to your Finished Pictures Folder.
